Bosque del Apache NWR, NM
Photos from Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in New Mexico. The NWR is adjacent to the Rio Grand River and was created in 1939. "Bosque del Apache" means "Woods of the Apache" and comes from the Spanish when they saw the Apache living along the Rio Grand River. Bosque is home to a wide variety of wildlife throughout the year. From late October to late February it is home to thousands of Sandhill Cranes and other migratory birds. This creates a unique experience that can be found in few places. Sandhill Cranes are large beautiful birds that always put on a show.
