Three Rivers Petroglyph Site, NM
Three Rivers Petroglyph Site is located between Tularosa and Carrizozo off of highway 54 in New Mexico. The petroglyphs were made by the Jornada Mogollon prehistoric Indian culture. There are no known descendants of this group. The site has more than 20,000 petroglyphs which are over 600 years old. The meaning and purpose of the petroglyphs are not entirely clear. Some petroglyphs may have religious meaning. The area is a high ridge near the remains of a village where the people lived and provides a good view of the surrounding area.
